Man Of Steel to feature female Jimmy Olsen character?

“Jenny Olsen” on cast list

Man Of Steel seems set to risk the ire of Superman fanboys by apparently recasting Jimmy Olsen as a female character named Jenny.

IMDb lists actress Rebecca Buller as playing a character named Jenny Olsen, with nobody listed as playing Jimmy. Sounds like it’s all change at the Daily Planet.

And for those suspecting an error on IMDb’s part, the above screenshot is taken from the trailer, and clearly shows Perry White fleeing the Planet with Buller in tow. Looks like their characters work together alright.

While purists might not be best pleased, we think it’s encouraging to see Snyder making the Superman universe his own. If recasting Jimmy as Jenny serves his story better, then we can’t see any problem with the change.

Co-starring Henry Cavill, Russell Crowe and Amy Adams, Man Of Steel opens in the UK on 14 June 2013.

What do you think of the change? Tell us, below!

It is anchorMAN, not anchorLADY, and that is a scientific fact!

Such a great film! Dont agree if its a female reporter! Jimmy it should be. Seems silly and not what it should be changing a chatecter. Meh

could they be doing something similar to Smallvile ie, Jenny dies and this inspires Jimmy to become a photographer ? either writing this sounds unlikely but its still better than what smallvile did - oh wait Jimmys younger brother (also called jimmy) is going to fall in his brother footsteps

Female Olsen sounds like a great idea! A comic on the subject was done at Cinema Bums today.

I don't remember reading about Laurence Fishburne being cast as Perry White (just had to check that on IMDB) but think thats a great choice. In terms of Olsen, in the above picture i don't see any camera around the woman's neck, which you'd think with stuff like that happening behind them any photographer worth their salt would be trying to snap a pic, so it may not be Olsen Unless they've changed that character aspect too). With regards to the gender, i think this is one of those roles/characters that wouldn't be too drastically changed by being a different sex, as they're not going to have that big a part to play in the film i would suspect. Although, i think a young male trying to constantly impress Perry, looks up to Clark and has a crush on Lois Lane is a better way to go than applying that to a female (unless they have her with a crush on Clark) - just hope they don't go down the same route as Natalie Portman's colleague in Thor - she was a bit of a pointless character

just wonder as well if we won't actually see a bespectacled Clark Kent joining the Daily Planet until the very last shot - a bit like a 'Superman Begins' moment.

I think it is a much better idea to cast a woman instead of a man, more eye candy of course. Who really cares whether a bit part gets changed by gender? I don't, look at 'Salt' not a massive fan of Jolie but she owned that film and I much preferred seeing her than Cruise Control. I have majorly high hopes for this film, they production team have played every card right so far, the teaser got my taste buds going, the trailer got my excitement flowing without giving anything away, now I am just itching for the main event, can't wait!!

I agree with SiMan. I really don't think changing the sex of such a secondary character will make too much difference. I too was wondering if they might go down the 'crush on Clark' route. To me, it's not a biggie. Some purists are taking any opportunity to slam this movie before it even gets off the ground.

Holly sh*t i completely missed Laurence Fishburne as Perry, good choice indeed - but upon thinking about it this is no bigger than the robin 'change' in TDKR

How many times does Laurence Fishburne have to be rescued by a flying superhero?

As long as the film's good who cares so long as the character is well written and suits the story Snyder wants to tell?

If they want to add a female character thats fair enough, but they shouldnt do that by changing a established character, its just insulting to fans of said character

Not to mention an obvious move to get people talking about the film at the expense of fans of the character
