Mark Strong says Green Lantern sequel not likely to happen

“I would be surprised if they made a second”

Green Lantern’s underwhelming box office performance was a significant disappointment for Warner Bros, and Mark Strong has suggested that will be that for the green-suited superhero.

“I would be surprised if they made a second one, because I've heard nothing about it in quite a while now,” said Strong, suggesting that the next time we’ll see the character will be in a Justice League movie, should one ever get made.

The star went on to speak about the post-credits scene in the movie, which had originally been intended to serve as a signpost towards where the rest of the franchise was headed.

“A lot of people seemed to be confused by [Sinestro] putting on the ring at the end of the movie,” said Strong. “They felt that it came out of nowhere. It was intended to relate to where the movies were headed and that, for me, would have been very exciting because putting on of the ring and the suit turning yellow would have been great fun.”

Sadly, that possibility now seems unlikely given the way the first film flopped. Fingers crossed the studio finds a way to make Justice League work in order to give the Lantern the big screen outing he deserves…

Would you have liked to have seen a sequel? Tell us, below!

You know, this would be one that i think needs a reboot sooner rather than later. I'd don't see why Hollywood can't just hold their hands up and say, 'Yeah, we got that wrong, but we're going to re-try it and do it right this time'. This could have been a good film, but i can't believe they took it in the direction they did. They should have set it out in the galaxy somewhere (he is an 'intergalactic' cop after all), they should have got him to Oa as soon as he said the oath and charged the ring (not 15 minutes later)....they should have done a lot of things differently.

Again another film that has been ridiculously ridiculed when it really wasn't that bad. I feel for Mark Strong with Green Lantern and John Carter, those two movies shouldn't have flopped so badly.

What's with all the pointless rebooting. It's a shame that instead of trying to get the right course the hollywood chooses to throw everything away and start over nowadays. In some cases it's necessary (FF was a pile of s**t) but Green Lantern wasn't that bad at all. He may be a failure but apart from sloppy character work it everything - Ryenolds was good as Hal Jordan, Strong was a great Sinestro and the establishment of the GL universe was succesful. I don't want another character spoiled in the way Marvel did it with The Hulk. Rebooting just makes mess in everything. The ending of GL set a great direction in which the next movie could go and right all the wrongs. Seriously GL 2 could be pretty bad-a*s. Just bring in a good script and Martin Cambell can return and show he can do it. I really want to see Mark Strong as Sinestro again.

John Carter was f'kin woefuly dull. Nothing good about it, but GL was a fun film, I thought. Far from a classic, but doesn't deserve the hate.

I agree they have been fair worse superhero films, and most from marvel, the first hulk, fantastic four,Electra, wolverine, ghost rider ect four of these got sequels explain that. My explanation is there isn't as much love for DC moves unless he's a bat or a super alien

I was really hoping they would make a sequel after seeing the end credits. If for nothing else to see Mark Strong's Sinestro open a can on Green Lantern, who would, prayerfully, be recast. If I kept anyone from the original cast for a sequel/reboot it would only be Mark Strong.

I don't think Green Lantern needs rebooting it just needs a good sequel and the turning of Sinestro would be a good way to go.

Perhaps they could write Sinistro into the Justice League movie.

“A lot of people seemed to be confused by [Sinestro] putting on the ring at the end of the movie,” said Strong. “They felt that it came out of nowhere. " They felt it came out of nowhere? Does anyone know ANYthing about Green Lantern and or the story line in the comics? This is how the story goes. This is also where the comics actually get to be a great read. The Sinestro Corps War series was fantastic, and that could be a great turn for the movie series as well. The first movie had a LOT of description of the universe to accomplish, which was ruined by a bit too much CGI and not enough background on the villain. I could see the downfall of Sinestro, with some flashbacks to Korugar and his upbringing, and his continued corruption by Fear. They could write it to make Sinestro seem more like Wonder Woman gone awry in his pursuit of order thru power.
