Martin Scorsese heckled at Academy screening

Senior members react badly to The Wolf Of Wall Street

The Wolf Of Wall Street might be earning rave reviews from critics on both sides of the pond, but it was less well received at a recent Academy screening, with senior members actually heckling the director during the event.

It seems that some of the Academy’s older members didn’t take to kindly to some of the film’s sex-and-drug-fuelled content, with actress Hope Holiday updating her Facebook page with a scathing account of the evening.

“Last night was torture at the Academy,” said Holiday. “The Wolf Of Wall Street - three hours of torture.

"Same disgusting crap over and over again - after the film they had a discussion which a lot of us did not stay for.”

"The elevator doors opened and Leonardo DiCaprio and Martin Scorsese and a few others got out. Then a screenwriter ran over to them and started screaming, 'Shame on you'. Disgusting."

Sounds like that Best Picture gong might not be a particularly safe bet, then... The Wolf Of Wall Street will open in the UK on 17 January 2014.

it took the Academy how long to give Martin Scorsese his best director Oscar? I say F*#k what they've got to say about his pictures and what they think! Go on without a second thought Sir Martin, your fans know your one of the immortal best. Oh and Merry Christmas to all at Total Film keep up the good work and all that jazz..

Wow! That's surely going to crush his spirit and stop him from making movies.

This is atrocious behavior from professionals to another. Scorsese could probably write and direct a better film in his sleep than most of these so called 'artists' could throughout the whole of their lives!!! The Academy does not deserve good directors. So what if it has sex and drugs in it, its about a period of time when that happened!!! I tell you if these so called patrons of the cinematic arts had their way then Tarantino's Pulp Fiction would be about a guy who falls out with his girlfriend over a spot of light lunch and then makes it up with her 20 minutes before a clichéd ending!!!

This is very immature and unprofessional behaviour from the Academy. I'll listen to the critics over the Academy any day. They are after all, the ones who didn't think Ben Affleck deserved a nomination for his excellent directing in Argo and dismissed Ryan Gosling's incredible performance in Drive.

No surprise really, the Academy have always been out of touch with the regular film goer. They always seem to have alterior motives for a lot of the Oscars that they give out and allow social conscience to affect their choices rather then honouring the best performances. More likely to watch a film that does not receive praise from the back-slapping cliquey Academy as they are more likely to showcase risky, edgy performances rather then these by the numbers, box ticking roles which they seem to love.

Time to retire the Academy. At its best, it's only ever been a popularity contest. At its worst - as the recent example exemplifies - it is a clique-ridden cesspool of high-school bullying and shameless self-promotion.
