Marvel trails The Consultant short film online

One-shot featuring S.H.I.E.L.D.'s Agent Coulson

Marvel has posted a clip online from the short film The Consultant, which features S.H.I.E.L.D. Agent Phil Coulson (Clark Gregg).
The clip was first shown to Comic-Con fans who attended Marvel's Cup O’ Joe panel and the short will appear in full on the Blu-ray and 3D Blu-ray release of Thor
Gregg will also appear as Coulson in another short titled A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To Thor’s Hammer... - although it's not yet known when and where that will appear.
Both shorts are self-contained stories following the daily life of a S.H.I.E.L.D. agent.
“I got a call from a rising young executive over at Marvel named Kevin Feige to talk about the Avengers,” joked Gregg, who plays Coulson in Iron Man, Iron Man 2, Thor and The Avengers
“In that conversation he said they had this crazy idea. They want to do some shorts about a couple of different days in the life of Agent Coulson. Some connective tissue between the movies."
Marvel One-Shot: The Consultant takes place sometime after the plots of Iron Man 2,Thor, and The Incredible Hulk, but before The Avengers.

Actually I believe this clip is set during Iron Man 2 and The Incredible Hulk. The discussion they're having is about sending someone to talk to General Ross (William Hurt in Incredible Hulk) about the situation in order to prevent him sending Blonsky (Tim Roth) in. That's when Coulson basically describes Tony Stark to a T. In Iron Man 2 due to Stark's behaviour he he demoted to the role of Consultant on the Avengers Initiative, and during this conversation with Nick Fury, in the background on the TV is the news discussing the Hulk's scene at the University.

That makes sense to me, loved the background shots in Iron Man 2 but loads of people seemed to miss out on that. I think these short films are a natty little idea, slotting into the continuity here and there ... it's just a shame the picture TF have used makes Coulson look as though he's constipated (lol). Hopefully the second short will be on the Captain America DVD/Blu-Ray which should be out before Christmas :)

Yay!! I think Clark Gregg is ace, thought it was really sweet when they got him onstage at last year's con with the rest of the avengers. He's all set for some cult legend status, his dry performances are one of the great things about these Marvel movies, give it a few years and he could be 'the next Bruce Campbell'....
