Marvel considering TV series set in Avengers universe

The comic-book studio is talking with ABC…

After the phenomenal success of Avengers Assemble, it’s all systems go over at Marvel. Not content with crafting its ambitious set of post-Avengers ‘Phase Two’ movies, the studio is now looking into making a TV series set in the Avengers universe.

No firm details about exactly what they’re planning yet, but Marvel is currently talking with TV goliath ABC about the idea.

According to Deadline, the studios are discussing a “kernel of an idea”, and the series could have a fairly loose connection to the Avengers universe.

Don’t expect to see Thor, Captain America or Iron Man popping up, then. So what form would the TV show take?

Well, our best bet is a show exploring the inner workings of S.H.I.E.L.D, with no end of Marvel characters they could draw in from lesser-known titles to guest star.

Interestingly, FX channel are also currently mulling over the pilot for the Marvel-inspired Powers. ABC might have a bit of competition in the superhero TV stakes, then.

For the time being, Marvel is moving forward with its ‘Phase Two’ set of films, which includes sequels Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Thor: The Dark World and Iron Man 3 alongside new properties Guardians Of The Galaxy and Ant-Man.

Hmmm, interesting. This 'could' work if done right, some lesser character being sued throughout the series, keeping this big boys for the movies, and come AV2 and AV3, they can combine. This has got me thinking...

Could be pretty cool I reckon... I mean, they did wonders with Stargate SG-1, so we know TV from film adaptations can work. As long as they get a really clever plot into it.

This sounds like a cool idea. I'd love to be able to watch a big budget Marvel project every week. I'm sure they could hire Downey Jr., Hemsworth and the like for cameos in the finale or something. Cobie Smulders is more of a tv star any way so they could probably get her on board as a main character and obviously it can be set when Fury goes underground.

I've always said that comic book adaptations would work well as a tv series - i agree this could be good if done well. Some storylines are too big for a 2 hour movie, especially when a lot of the 'lesser' characters are also involved. @thedanieljson - I'm sure i read somewhere that the original writers of the Stargate movie hated the direction the tv show took the story (not sure if its true or not).....I hope that doesn't happen with Marvel.
