Marvel has started working on plans to make neurosurgeon-turned-super-sorcerer Doctor Strange into their next big movie franchise.
Thomas Donnell and Joshua Oppenheimer (Conan the Barbarian) have handed in a script, and Marvel are so excited by what they've read they've already started shortlisting directors.
After a flurry of successful films released by Marvel in recent months, not least Captain America, many will be questioning this attempt to bring out one of their rather more obscure characters.
For those who’ve never heard of Doctor Strange (he's only the big daddy of the Marvel Universe) here’s a selection of his many, many talents…
“Doctor Strange can use magic to achieve virtually any effect he desires, such as telepathy, energy blasts, teleportation, astral projection, the creation of materials, creating planet-wide protective shields, restoring himself from bodily destruction, or resurrecting the dead.
"Strange is capable of stopping and reversing time on a planetary scale, sealing black holes, restoring universes, absorbing power enough to unconsciously destroy any surrounding galaxies, growing to the size of and merging with universal concepts, and helped to channel the mass of the entire Marvel Universe.”
So he’s essentially a superhero Swiss army knife then...

If they can get this right, Dr Strange could be near-apocalyptic in it's awesomeness ... and if successful enough could this lead to a big screen outing for The Defenders? With Hulk already established in The Avengers and Namor apparently having his own adventure in the next couple of years, this could have the potential to be the next multi-character-movie-build-up to a super team ala The Avengers? Problem is, if this does lead to a Defenders film ... Marvel need to sort out the rights to snaffle Silver Surfer back from the FF franchise over at FOX. You gotta have the big four on the team ... ooooo I just remembered the classic crossover: The Avengers / Defenders war!!! Now, that could be something special to see ...

@KingofSpain: Nerd and proud my friend ... Nerd and proud :) @Hadouken76 and @writerdave87: Haha, he's more than just a wizard and he could show Potter a thing or two ... it wouldn't have taken him 8 films to sort Voldemorte out, he'd have spanked him first time around (lol) Just to clarify, Marvel's The Defenders comic book has absolutely nothing to do with the cartoon TV series Defenders Of The Earth ... two totally separate entities :-)

So. f*****g. Awesome. That's all that can be said really. To see the Sorcerer Supreme on the big screen would just rock to a degree of insanity previously only found in mental asylums. Gonna take one hell of a villain to threaten Strange though...
