Marvel schedules untitled film for release in 2016

Third untitled picture in studio’s long-term plan

Marvel has announced another untitled film to be slotted into its long-term release schedule, the third such project pencilled in for 2016 and 2017.

The announcement confirms the studio’s commitment to a two-films-per-year output, with the film in question slated to arrive in US cinemas on 8 July 2016.

That release date will see it arrive mere months after the first untitled Marvel project, which is currently set to hit Stateside screens on 6 May 2016, before a third mystery film on 5 May 2017.

As for what these unnamed films might turn out to be, there’s plenty of room for speculation. We know that Marvel is keen on a Doctor Strange movie, while there has been plenty of online clamour for a Black Panther introduction.

Alternatively, Marvel could be laying the groundwork for third outings for Thor or Captain America, while there’s also been much discussion surrounding a potential standalone for Mark Ruffalo’s Hulk.

In any case, we’re likely to find out more when Marvel hits Comic-Con next month. Place your bets now…

What do you think the new film will turn out to be? Tell us, below!

I'm sure I read somewhere recently that Dr Strange is going ahead for definite. Can't remember where though. Strange seems the likeliest bet anyways.

I really would like it to be a HULK movie and they make use of Mark Ruffalo - but it's looking more and more like Doctor Strange especially after latino reviews script leak - they been pretty on the mark so far. If marvel read this - please give us a hulk movie first!

We'll get to a point where we'll hear about films for release in 2050 next week. I would rather hear about films out next year.

Let it be Black Panther, please let it be Black Panther, I need a movie version of someone sassing and/or slapping Tony Stark. Then again, DOCTOR STRANGE. They have the science paet of the MCU, with GotG they're expanding the cosmic side of the MCU, now we need more on the magic front. Loki has magic and we can safely assume that Wanda will in The Avengers 2 - but I want my Doctor Strange damnit!

This could be absolutely anything so it seems pointless to speculate until they release further info, but it is at least re-assuring to see that Marvel are still planning way down the line rather than following DC's seemingly rush jobs trying to get things out.

Doctor Strange has been confirmed for Phase 3 (@Katbelle) and is most likely the film released in May 2016, so now it's just a question of what the other two films are in July 2016 and May 2017, I personally would love to see a Ruffalo-lead Hulk film plus I'd rather see a new character rather than Thor 3 or Cap 3 (although I wouldn't be adverse to either of those, coz I love the characters, enjoyed their first outings and look forward to their sequels) ... that said, Black Panther would be cool, but maybe Luke Cage or try a female solo film? I know everyone quotes Catwoman and Elektra as examples, but perhaps the new Captain Marvel (Ms Marvel / Warbird / Binary) could be a great shout? With her Kree heritage they could explore a vast amount of Avengers history from Carol's point of view.

Punisher / Daredevil / Ghost Rider ... all done properly in one film ... that would be awesome. Chuck in Moon Knight too :) Actually, I wonder if we'll see any or all of these characters in the Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. TV show?

I doubt we'll see any of those characters in Agents of SHIELD. Marvel have already gone on record saying that none of their big screen properties (current or future) will be in the show, and DD and GR are probably the 2 out of those 3 that'll be high on their list of reboots. I could actually see Punisher working really well in Agents, but doubt very much we'll see it.

@BobTheSkull - true, but if the show is a really big hit and has high ratings, Marvel may change their minds about that and use the TV series as a re-introduction of a character leading to a new film, perhaps? Just a thought :)
