Matt Damon stars in first clip from Elysium: watch now

Bad robot…

A first clip has emerged online for Elysium, in which Matt Damon attempts to argue his case to an infuriatingly disinterested robot.

The film is set on a futuristic version of Earth, where the working class poor are left on the ruined husk of the planet's surface, while the rich live in luxury aboard the space station Elysium.

A robotic security network is charged with keeping order among the lower classes, making for a disciplinary process that doesn't allow much scope for the benefit of the doubt…

Take a look at the new clip, below:

If there's a clip that better sums up the frustration of attempting to deal with an automated "service", we've yet to see it. Yes, of course he'd rather speak to a human…

Directed by Neill Blomkamp and co-starring Jodie Foster, Sharlto Copley and Alice Braga, Elysium will open in the US on 9 August 2013, before hitting the UK on 21 August.

What do you think of the new clip? Tell us, below!

This looks excellent - hope it delivers. The guy knows how to make intelligent sci-fi.
