Matt Damon up for True Grit

The Coens also want Josh Brolin

BY James White Oct 27th 2009 8:08AMFILED UNDER: Movie news

The Coen brothers are talking to Matt Damon and Josh Brolin to join the cast of their planned new version of True Grit.

Jeff Bridges is already aboard for the lead as US Marshal Rooster Cogburn (originally played by John Wayne) and Brolin would continue the run of the brothers using actors they've worked with before - since he starred in No Country For Old Men.

If he signs, Brolin will play the murderous thug who kickstarts the murder that sends Cogburn after him into dangerous Native American territory.

Damon, on the other hand, would be a Coen newcomer, but is negotiating for the part of the lawman who joins Cogburn on his mission.

Sounds like they'd both be solid choices, but what say you?

Please stop them from making this, it will no doubt recieve rave reviews from the film fraternity, but will be awful like everything else they have done. True Grit is too good to ruin.

Looks great. I love Damon and Brolin, not to mention the Coens, and after seeing A Serious Man it's clear that they are incapable of making a bad movie.

#2 joker16, I think you need to rent Intolerable Cruelty... But of course that was disappointing rather than bad, so I'd sort of agree with you. I was dreading this as the original is a classic, but with the Coens, Bridges and Josh Brolin on board, it's hard not to get excited. Spielberg is producing too, to add to the dream team!
