Meryl Streep is Julia Child

With Amy Adams in cooking comedy-drama Julie and Julia

Famous female chefs these days tend to be more of the Nigella Lawson or (in Yank land) Rachel Ray flavour, but back in her day, Julia Child was queen of the kitchen.

Now she’ll get another accolade as Meryl Streep’s strapping on her apron to portray the well-known maven of the saucepan in Julie & Julia.

Amy Adams has also signed on, playing a frustrated secretary who makes a new year’s resolution to make all 525 recipes in Child’s book Mastering The Art Of French Cooking, while cataloguing her progress on a food blog.

Unsurprisingly, this is ripped from real-life experience, as Nora Ephron has been adapting the story from Julie Powell’s book, Julie And Julia: 365 Days, 524 Recipes, 1 Tiny Apartment Kitchen. And given her track record with female-centric flicks, Ephron will also direct the movie.

There’s no actual start date yet, but studio backers Columbia want things to start simmering early next year.

Hint: The film starred Michael J Fox as accidental time traveller Marty McFly.
