MGM plans Valley Girl remake musical

The remake army marches on, with studios continuing to grab films from their own back catalogue to dust off and re-purpose.
MGM is trying a slightly different track with ‘80s comedy Valley Girl, which starred Nic Cage, planning to skip the now common stage route and just turn the film into a musical movie itself. Paging Tiffany and Huey Lewis! ‘80s songs will be the backbone! We somehow doubt Cage will be back to appear in the new tale, which will apparently retain the original film’s rich-valley-girl-meets-city-punk, Romeo & Juliet idea.
Variety is digging out its legwarmers.
