This story initially broke on April Fool's day, so we were sceptical at first, but it seems as though Michael Bay's Platinum Dunes has taken over stewardship of the Halloween franchise.
Bloody Disgusting reports that the mooted Halloween sequel, tentatively titled Halloween 3D, has now been scrapped in favour of a new direction for the franchise.
Whilst Drive Angryduo Todd Farmer and Patrick Lussier were initially attached to the project, Platinum Dunes is reportedly on the lookout to find new writers and directors to take the franchise forward. The 3D concept is also thought to have been ditched.
Halloween would swell the growing ranks of horror reboots that Platinum Dunes have been responsible for, including The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, The Amityville Horror, Friday The 13th and A Nightmare On Elm Street.
Given that none of those particularly set the world alight, we can't say we're too thrilled by this latest development. And with Rob Zombie having rebooted the saga as recently as five years ago, can the story really stand another update?
Michael Bay clearly thinks it can. We just hope he's cleared some more room in his schedule for another round of fanboy ranting. He just can't get enough!

Let him write/produce/direct a Top Gun sequel. That should keep him busy and moviegoers safe for a few years.

Please, I beg you, if this film appeals to you, go to any DVD buying site and pick up the original classic instead. DO NOT SEE THIS FILM. DO NOT GIVE MONEY TO THIS DESTROYER OF MEMORIES AND ART.

I know it's easy to slight Platinum Dunes, but I'd have to say that the Halloween franchise died on it's backside as far back as the 80's. Can't really blame Rob Zombie. With a couple of notable exceptions (e.g. the original, ho), the rest of the franchise was pretty poor. Can't see how even Michael Bay can come up with something execrably poor as Halloween 3: Season of the Witch.

oh ffs! i stopped caring about these movies after the very good Halloween H20 which finished the series well......... i suppose one positive thing is that whilst they are making pointless films like this, they arent going out and remaking great movies like Death Note (DONT YOU DARE BAY !!! )

It really cant get any worse for this franchise can it? the last several of them were awful (excusing H20 which was decent at best). Even Jason has a better batting average! personally i think if they are going to do it then its gotta be low budget, low gore, and high suspense (or re-release the original, hell i'd love to see that on the big screen again) but they'll probably send the fecker to space...

Hey dudes.carpenter's original is my fave film and the reason i wanna make films today, but i gotta say these sequals/reboots don't bother me. Just go back and remind yourself of the brilliance of the original (same goes for all redo's), and let the new guys try and breathe new life into what are very cool bad guys. I've gotta say, if platinum dunes handed me a couple of mill and said "remake that movie!", i'd snap it outta their hands. Plus, that pic of mike in the headline is far more frightening/obscure/pantwetting than anything the franchise has produced since. That is all

I have yet to see Halloween (although it's on my to-do list), but surely this can't be that hard of a movie to avoid f*****g up? Silent guy in a mask, going around killing people? All you have to do are make the victims likable charac--- oh. s**t. That's a problem, isn't it? Well, might as well just throw in buckets of gore and make all your characters unlikable piles of s**t, then.

As you can see based on my previous comments, I am not happy with this news. However, a thought entered my mind. Platinum Dune alsready did the Friday The 13th reboot, now they are doing Halloween. Possibility of setting the stage for Jason vs. Michael??? I think I would have to see that, no matter who is making it.

Hold up; if they have the rights to Freddy, Jason, Leatherface AND Michael... And if Dracula, Frankenstein and the Wolf Man are public domain... This has the potential to be the greatest movie. EVER/
