Michael Bay set to hand Transformers 5 to a new director

“There’s a new direction in movies I want to make”

Michael Bay may be set to pass over the reins of the Transformers franchise to a new pair of hands, with the director revealing he wants to take his career in a new direction.

USA Today reports that Bay is planning to appoint a new director for the fifth film in the series while he focuses his attentions elsewhere.

“There’s kind of a new chapter, a new direction in movies I want to make,” says Bay, who has been linked to a documentary on elephant poaching. “I have a lot of stories to tell. And it’s about flexing new muscles.”

The director had previously told Collider that he was uncertain whether he would carry on with the Transformers series, questioning just what else he could bring to the franchise.

"They are so fucking hard to make,” said Bay. “It’s every day for two years, seven days a week. And after you see this movie, you think, ‘Well, what the hell am I going to do next?’”

Transformers 5 is expected to arrive in 2016, with a release date yet to be confirmed.

If the new director can reduce the running time so they are not so ball-achingly long, that would be a start. AoE is the first one I've not bothered watching at the cinema.

He's said it on every single one of them @apo1978 ... after the first film he said he'd never do another one and yet he has shat three more of them out (each one getting longer and worse). He needs to watch the animated film from 1985. Best TF film in existence, 90mins long yet it has more action, humanity, humour and actual characterisation then ALL of his efforts put together ... plus Unicron! Unicron is awesome!

I see it's negotiating time again. In all seriousness I hope Bay's being sincere (lol that will be the day).

It's not just about the director...can we get a new writer too please? Bay's direction isn't the worst thing in the Transformers movies, it's the damn awful scripts.

What? The next one's got Unicron in it, doesn't it? Who wouldn't want to make that?! I'LL DO IT! :D
