Michael Fassbender's next film could be Irish Myths

He's attached to play a legendary hero

Michael Fassbender, it's fair to say, has had a pretty decent 12 months.

After a strong 2011 (including his blockbuster breakout, X-Men: First Class), Fassbender's 2012 has kicked off with tremendously varied style, with Haywire, Shame and A Dangerous Method all impressing.

And that's before Prometheus has even come out.

And it doesn't look like the actor is resting on his laurels, as he's already lining up another project in the form of Irish Myths.

The script is currently being written by Ronan Bennett (Public Enemies), and will focus on the Ulster Myth Cycle from Irish mythology. Fassbender is set to play Cuchulain, a hero compared to Achilles for his short life and subsequent fame.

Interestingly, he's also known for his monstrous battle frenzies, which could look extremely cool on screen.

There's currently no news on a director, let alone a release date.

Does this sound like another decent role for Fassbender? Talk to us!

I have been waiting for a film based around Cuchulain for years, I just hope it doesn't fail.

I've been fascinated with the Cuchulain story ever since playing the old Speccy game Tir Na Nog as a youngster. Hopefully this will have a little less walking and a better ending though. :)

Always wondered why a film about Irish mythology has never been made, some really interesting stories in there with epic battles to boot! If this film is given the right director (Neil Marshall maybe??) and the proper budget with Fassbender involved it could be amazing. I've just finished watching all of the game of thrones (made in Northern Ireland) episodes back to back and i'm really in the mood for this type of film. LOTR could be watched this week again : )
