After all the wrangling about money, the ball in the will-he-won’t-he roulette game of Mickey Rourke playing a villain in Iron Man 2 has settled into a “yes” slot.
According to gossip hound Nikki Finke, Rourke’s agent, David Unger has finally gotten Marvel to crack.
“After at first being low-balled by the studio to the tune of $250K, Rourke has signed on for the role of the Russian villain in the sequel after his agent David Unger got the quote up to a ‘significant’ level despite this punishing economic climate where the studios are taking advantage of talent.”
And now Variety reports that the deal is officially done, with Rourke lined up play Whiplash - but a version that incorporates elements from both that character and Crimson Dynamo (below).
There’s even more intriguing info buried at the bottom of the piece, which goes on to say that Sony had been considering him for the bad guy in Spider-Man 4.
Which leads us, naturally, to wonder just which character he might have been playing, and what that means for the next Spidey outing. Kraven the Hunter, anyone?
And in a surprising update to Fink's blog, it would appear that Scarlett Johansson has also worked out a deal to play slinky spy Black Widow.
According to the report, she hasn't faired as well as Rourke, accepting a terrible offer that not only pays badly, but also locks her into several films. Would she really agree to that?
We'll believe it when we hear it (and given the locked-down nature of Hollywood dealmaking, we're pretty sure no one will spill) and for now this one is strictly rumour.
