Milla Jovovich reveals Resident Evil 5 plot and casting

Jensen Ackles won't play Leon

Vin Diesel's been busy on Facebook, Milla Jovovich has been busy on Twitter. The Resident Evil 5 actress has been updating her fans - and therefore the world - about what to expect from the fifth videogame movie.

Resident Evil: Retribution is currently shooting in Canada and if Jovovich is to be believed writer/director Paul W.S. Anderson is making good on his promise to incorporate fan-feedback into the project.

So, what do we know?
* The plot sees the Umbrella Corporation kidnap K-Mart (Spencer Locke), Chris Redfield (Wentworth Miller) and Claire (Ali Larter).
* Sorry Supernatural fans – Jensen Ackles won't be playing former Raccoon City cop Leon Scott Kennedy, although the character will appear in the film.
* The Las Plagas parasite will feature.
* Albert Wesker (Shawn Roberts) returns from Resident Evil: Afterlife
* S.T.A.R.S. weapons specialist Barry Burton and agent Ada Wong both appear, with no word on casting yet.
* Colin Salmon plays James 'One' Shade, having last played the role in the 2002 Resident Evil movie.
* Jill Valentine (Sienna Guillory) will become one of the main antagonists.

Word is the change of sides by Valentine sets up an epic fight between Alice and Jill, while the movie will also include a highly-complex chase sequence.

Jensen Ackles may have missed out on the role of Leon (so much for listening to the fans, eh?) but who should play Barry and Ada? Have your say below!

Loved the first two games, third one was good enough, but the films make me want to rip my eyes out with a spoon. how this managed to get one sequel let alone on number 5 is beyond me, maybe I do have terrible taste in films...........

Someone said it beore me, but RE is probably the only franchise that needs to be rebooted, but isn't.

Truly awful films... ALL of them. It's a shame as the games were fantastic (number 4 being my fav). How can Colin Salmon be playing the character? he died in the first one, or is this set before the first one? or did I miss something (vaguely resembling a plot) in the 2nd and 3rd ones? Actually, I don't think I care..

I love milla, but Alice does not belong and Paul W.S. Anderson ruined what was already a good story, with his shoddy unfaithful adaptation.. The Studios should wait a couple years and reboot the damn franchise with a director that will treat it with the respect it deserves.. Matthew Vaughn? Zack Snyder?... anyone but Paul Anderson. .

Anderson has finally realised that with all the hate mail and negative reviews from his resi films he is f*****g up a damn good franchise. hence 3 musketeers which no one cares about has dropped from his bowels. And milla saying they have taken onboard all the fan feedback? If so, then how can this film still be going ahead?

They keep making money, so plenty of people must like them. Not just in cinemas either, where you can excuse a certain amount of opening weekend hype sales. On DVD and download they just keep coining it in. Reboots happen when franchises stutter or flop, such as Batman, Spiderman and Superman. Why would they change a Resident Evil formula that is still winning? This is the same thinking that results in endless gurning Johnny Depp pirate films, now THERE is a moribund franchise worthy of re-boot, preferably into the nearest ocean. Most computer game adaptations are a disaster because of their slavish devotion to in-game narrative and tendency to take themselves far too seriously. Anderson at least seems to understand the ridiculousness of the concept and makes it enjoyably kitsch and tongue-in-cheek. I can't help but like the RE films, sequels and all. Rubbish - but fun, watchable rubbish with pretty people and big guns, and how could anyone not love Milla. In thigh boots. x

Here's a first for the Resident Evil films, apparently the new one will have a plot ... mmmmm, interesting. Seriously though @NickOrd54, I agree that they are rubbish bits of fun, but that's the problem. I think what most people want is a proper full-on version of Resident Evil, there is so much more potential there and Anderson just isn't getting the job done correctly. The RE films could be so much better and entertaining than what we've seen so far and I think that's what urks fans of the games. Yes, you are right, it's the home entertainment side that has kept the last couple of Resi films firmly in the black / money making arena (as the cinema releases haven't set the box office alight) and that's why Anderson is able to keep coming back time and time again like some film-maker version of the tyrant. SONY know he can delivery films that make profit, the quality of those films is inconsiquential as long as the money comes in, it's that kind of franchise, there's no real love for the source material. A reboot and a different studio/production company is needed and someone other than Jovovich as the main lead.
