Monsters Vs Aliens defeats the US Box Office

Another topper for DreamWorks Animation

DreamWorks Animation’s first from-the-start 3D ‘toon, Monsters Vs Aliens, handily won the US box office this weekend, taking home $58.2 million.

It meant that The Haunting In Connecticut had to settle for second place, making a nevertheless respectable $23 million. Dropping from first to third, Nic Cage’s apocalyptic thriller Knowing took in $14.7 million.

Fourth place went to I Love You, Man (see the trailer), which nabbed $12.6 million for a current total of$37 million and fifth was Duplicity, with $7.5 million and $25 million in the bank to date.

The only other new opening was action thriller 12 Rounds, which arrived in seventh place and took in $5.3 million.
