Naomie Harris to play Moneypenny in Bond 23?

And Javier Bardem and Ralph Fiennes are said to be locked in

We've known for some time that Naomie Harris has been in talks to play a Bond girl in the the next 007 movie.

Now, according to a report by the Daily Mail's Baz Bamigboye, we hear she's set to play M's secretary (and James Bond's flirt-object) Moneypenny.

The iconic character has been played by five actresses since Dr No in 1962, if you include appearances in unofficial Bond movies Casino Royale (1967) and Never Say Never Again.

Lois Maxwell played the character across 14 movies, before Caroline Bliss took over for the Timothy Dalton films. Samantha Bond was the Brosnan-era Moneypenny

The character hasn't appeared in the Bond movies during Craig's tenure, but that looks set to change.

Harris would be a smart choice for Moneypenny, with the kind of understated good looks and quiet intelligence that should provide more than a match for the swaggering secret agent.

Bamigboye also confirms that Javier Bardem and Ralph Fiennes, who have both been rumoured to be attached, are locked in.

Surely it can't be too long before we get some official casting announcements (and a proper title) for this one.

If these reports are accurate, then this Sam Mendes-directed instalment is shaping up to be one of the classiest blockbusters in production, and should easily make audiences forget the messy Quantum Of Solace.

Bond 23 will open on 26 October 2012.

Is Harris a good fit for Moneypenny? Any guesses at a possible title? You know where to comment…

I think a Moneypenny at all is a good fit. How ever much I love the old bond films with her in I think it'll take away from Craig's Bond. Anyway that's a nonsense when you have Ralph Fiennes in there. Would never have thought a time would come when someone of his mega mega talent would touch a bond film. And with Bardem to this is shaping up to be a bloody good film. Just drop Moneypenny.

Empire (the other magazine) stated that just having the title Bond 23 would be a bold move. Though a title is hard to imagine when no plot details have been released. With the heavy iconic cast and Sam Mendes behind the camera, the next Bond is going to raise the bar. Moneypenny.. depends if she is value for money!!!

Actually Dalidab, I was thinking a Sport jacketed Jason Issacs as an up to date Blofeld, (but a non- Dr Evil verrsion).. Blofeld starts off as a billionaire ally, then MI6 refuses to rescue his daughter, he mounts a rescue but gets horribly scarred, his daughter ends up dead and he swears vengeance against HMSS... Bond and Blofeld become 'frenemies'...

My entire love for James Bond has just been ruined in one long and very peculiar paragraph. God damn you.

I agree with Hadouken, Jason Isaacs would be an awesome updated modern Blofeld. Dalidab, kindly go and jump in front of a train before you s**t all over any more great franchises with your 'ideas'. It's not even entertaining anymore, because I've realised you really are retarded enough to want to see a gay James Bond film with Johnny Vegas in it.

Sadly he's not... I thought he was until he plastered his twitter page up and I checked it out (he came up on a google search in various places as well). He's actually really like that.

@writerdave87 Based on some of dalidab's comments I'm pretty sure dalidab is a woman. Which explains some things ;)

Joker haven't you worked this out? Dalidab's further out of the closet than Elton John.

Hmm. Dalidab even you have to admit that's some very tenuous reporting, the last three stories are basically repeating what that first story says, quoting it as a reference, and that sounds like it's been taken way out of context. He says he'd do a 'nude scene', then suddenly that translates into 'Daniel Craig wants a gay James bond'? That story is from 2006 too... this interview's from 2008, and is a much more reliable source than 'contactmusic.com' http://www.guardian.co.uk/film/filmblog/2008/sep/22/1. Let's be honest, you did just google gay james bond and copied and pasted the first things that came up :p

Bond being gay is about has stupid as Elton John being straight, actually as stupid as Tom Cruise being straight. But seriously, I very much doubt, if he did say that, he was being serious.
