Neill Blomkamp's next film gets greenlit

District 9's director is sticking with sci-fi...

It should come as no surprise to learn that District 9 director Neill Blomkamp has lined up the funding for his next movie.

Media Rights Capital is giving him the cash - and, more importantly, the creative freedom - to make his next film, another sci-fi outing.

There are no real details available yet, since Blomkamp has only pitched it and hasn't even written the script yet. But the plan is for him to start shooting next year.

"MRC is letting me make the film I want to make, and that is by far the most important thing here," Blomkamp told Variety. "The film will hopefully be commercial, but it is very much a singular film, one that comes directly from me."

As for the budget, it'll be more than District 9, but still fairly low budget. Can't wait to see what he'll do next…
