New Avengers trailer lands

"I still believe in heroes"

Now our ears have recovered from Madonna’s caterwauling, and the players have had time to count their broken bones, its time to reflect on the most important aspect of last night’s Super Bowl… the new trailer for The Avengers.

Stuffed to the brim with new footage, the latest trailer shows the merry band of superheroes in full-on combat mode, as they pit their wits against Loki’s marauding army.

As Sam Jackson’s Nick Fury intones, “we are hopelessly outgunned… [but] I still believe in heroes.” So do we, Nick. So do we. Check out the new teaser below (goosebumps guaranteed)…

As we’d expected, the new trailer contains a whole heap of action, as Iron Man takes to the skies, Thor wields his hammer and Hulk smashes everything that crosses his path.

Incidentally, it’s the latter character who affords Robert Downey Jr his best one-liner. “I have an army,” breathes Loki, menacingly. “We have a Hulk,” quips Tony Stark.Oh hell yes...

The Avengers assemble in UK cinemas on 27 April 2012.

If you're a fan of all things Avengers, why not go ahead and like the film's UK Facebook page?

Sorry to sound a bit geeky, but I reckon they should have used Black Panther (perhaps Anthony Mackie?) instead of the completely useless Black Widow..

ok, I was a little nervy about the film if I am honest, but that has eased my mind somewhat. I think it looks pretty epic.

this guy writing the article is a total noob, marauding army? they are called skrulls, if he would have bothered to crack open a comic book and read a little bit on the source material he would already know this. there is a damn good reason these books have been around for so long, try reading them and you will understand why some people love them to their very core.

@FBZNolop I think the reason he didn't say that explicitly is because it hasn't been officially announced and would be considered a spoiler to the casual fan.

@FBZNolop Until we know for definite that Loki will be teaming with the Skrulls, it seems a bit premature to write it as gospel! Particularly when Kevin Feige has been so adamant they won't appear. That's not to say they won't crop up (Clark Gregg hinted as much on Twitter recently), but until we know for sure, I don't want to mislead people.

The Iron Man fight looks just like Wash piloting Serenity through the Reaver battle in Serenity. As far as Black Widow goes, we know Joss Whedon can do strong female characters in his sleep so I don't think we've got anything to worry about there.

@gwales no skrulls in the flick? i don't know about you but when i look at the "marauding army" as you put it, they look just like em and there is not much else in the marvel universe that they could possibly be. they sure as hell aren't the brood. question is will they try to go some strange route and say the skrulls are some hybrid race of the frost giants from thor and some other race? saying there will not be skrulls in the avengers movie is like saying that ras al ghul is not coming back in dark knight rises. the only question now is whether or not thanos will get decent screen time or just be a teaser at the end of the flick. also, when and how will the civil war start?

They could be Skrulls or just some race Loki has enslaved during his travels. This is set a year after the end of Thor. Who knows where Loki ended up after he fell from the Rainbow Bridge and what planet(s) he's been to. Either way this is looking absolutely amazing and whoever these warriors are, I'm sure they'll be linked to Avengers lore somehow ... Kree maybe? They do appear to have armour of some type. I've tried freezing framing it numerous times but it's blurry.

@FBZNolop If you pause the trailer and look closely their skin looks greyish – blue more like the frost giants than Skrulls, heck they even look more like Kree than Skrull. I hope to God you’re right and they are Skrull but they just don’t look like it. The most likely thing with Thanos will be either a post credits teaser or a sly mention from Loki or Fury, he won’t have a part in this film. With regards to your comment on the Civil War that would be the best film ever but it can’t be done, Marvel Studios don’t own film rights to quite a few of their characters for example Spider-Man and there can’t really be a Civil War film without him, that’d be like The Dark Knight Rises not having Batman in it.
