New Clip from Star Trek!

Spock Meets Scotty

With less than a month to go before release, Paramount has finally started to release some clips from Star Trek. You can see one below.

The clip features a scene where James Kirk and Scotty sneak on board The Enterprise and are confronted by Spock.

It's bound to generate debate, so we might as well address the issues. Is Spock too emotional? How did they get on the ship at warp speed? And is Simon Pegg right for Scotty?

What the f**k is up with the lens flare? God, is the whole film going to be shot like that? It's inexcusably distracting. If that really is how abrams has framed and shot the wjole thing, it will be unwatchable. And why does the Enterprise look like a bloody apple store? God, is this going to be a let down...

Christ, magnusbarfod, get a hold of yourself man. It looks incredible. I don't even like Star Trek.

It looks like he can't hold a camera still or keep his lens clean. It looks like a 12 year olds idea of what science fiction should look like. It looks like Simon Pegg thinks he's in an episode of spaced (which i'd rather he was...). It looks like a bad film. It doesn't look "incredible". And the fact that you don't like Star Trek but enjoyed this speaks volumes about why Abrams was the wrong man to direct this: he didn't like ST either. And boy does it show.

First off, i'm perfectly calm. Secondly, i'm well aware it's only a film. That's why i'm posting the comments i'm making on a film website...you know, the perfect forum for people to express views on films? And thirdly, you may hate Star Trek and all the associated geekery. Fine. I agree on a general level about the uber-obsessive ST fan. They're scary. But I do have a long history of loving different incarnations of the program, so to see it turned into (based on the trailers so far) something so far removed from the essence of what it purports to be a continuation off is annoying. The way it's been shot looks annoying. Simon Pegg (someone for whom I have an enormous reservoir of goodwill) looks annoying. The film, in short, looks bad. The pre-pubescent Kirk hooning a convertible off a cliff in the teaser was bad enough, but this is starting to confirm that Abrams is giving us a flashy, stupid, whizz-bang, spectacle-for-the-sake-of-spectacle, Michael Bay take on Star Trek. And that's a shame.

Okay, so, judging by this clip, Pegg has been disastrously miscast; they have obviously wanted to inject some comic relief into the serious affair of bringing back Star Trek & have gone for an actor used to doing lower budget comedy films and not blockbusters, giving him the effect of being out of his league. I do believe that the reason he 'can't hold a camera still' is because the shake was cleverly used to connote a sense of conflict between Spock and Kirk upon what would appear to be first meeting. As for the acting, I would say Pine has Kirk down to a tee & Quinto brings new life (and possibly emotion) to Spock. There is no doubt that this is going to be a brilliant film, but we will have to wait and see if the rest of the cast can step up to the mark.

Well i've seen more clips than this and I have to say it is lookinng awesome. The Drafthouse showing was a storm and as far as i'm concerned Simon Pegg is doing a great job as Scotty who was always the comic turn in the series and films. The one to look out for who is amazing is Karl Urban as McCoy, he nails the role. I'm a big Trek fan and and if this film boosts the franchise and brings in new fans then thats got to be good.

starwars4life? Get a life. You can't judge anything or anyone on a 37 second clip, particularly a film that is a minimum 5400 seconds. I can't judge anything from this clip and anyone who attempts to is misguided. I'll watch the 'entire film' first and then come back with an educated response from a substantiated view with a proper perspective.

Agreed, as i said above i've seen many clips and so far its building up to a good picture. I for one cant wait to see this. Peggys accent is there but he doesnt say much in this clip. Gonna be a great trip to the cinema.

I'm waiting to see the film before I pass judgment. I only hope that this re-imagining of ST isn't as bad as the Thunderbirds film. Classic kids TV show turned in to a cash cow remake.

im in no way a big star trek fan, but JJ abrams seems to be doing a fantastic job on this one and i cant wait for it to hit screens, despite some narrow minded vews on what makes a good film that seem to be based purely in a fantasy world of one persons point of view, i think the lens flare adds a very unique visual style and if someone has a problem with shaky camera work, your kind of about 15 years behind, its been the staple of most action films for the past decade or so(you may wanna check out a little film called the blair witch project, and cloverfield perhaps, maybe any michael bay and michael mann film, i could carry the list on but im sure i will have taken up way too much room with this anyway, so just type in action film that should cover it really). JJ abrams is one of the most promising film-mkaers and the casting here is almost impecable pine and quinto will be fantastic, and pegg is comic genius and has a serious side too so will be just as good. as for the whole pegg not being in a blockbuster i seem to remember him being a key character mission possible 3, also having a leading role in a hollywood romcom next to megan fox and kirsten dunst, so being out of his league is kind of a misguided statement really!
