“Just because he’s a bad guy, doesn’t mean he’s a bad guy,” uberpuns the voice-over man on the new trailer for Despicable Me.
After three underwhelming teasers and a few so-so images, Universal Pictures have finally showed us the goods with a trailer proper.
It’s still a little underwhelming, looking kind of like an anti-Incredibles with the requisite animated fare – funny/stupid minions, cute kids with big eyes and a lovable/hateable lead who learns something about himself over the course of the film.
That said, it’s got amazing detail, some cute gags and some shiny-looking artwork. Not to mention a rollercoaster POV bit that will no doubt have the kids heaving in the cinemas when they watch it in 3D.
Steve Carell provides the voice of the villainous Gru, a supervillain by profession who likes to use all kinds of gadgets and gizmos to get what he wants in life – and fast.
Now he’s working on his latest scheme – to steal the moon. But when three orphaned kids move in, he becomes a begrudging surrogate father to them. Will the get in the way of his mission?
Of course they will. The rest of the awesome voice cast includes Jason Segel, Kristen Wiig, Julie Andrews and Danny McBride.
Despicable or salvageable? Thoughts...?
