New director and writer for The Crow reboot

F. Javier Gutierrez and Jesse Wigutow to sign on…

Looks like things are up and running once more on the long-awaited remake of gothic classic The Crow, with a new director and screenwriter reportedly in talks to join the oft-delayed project.

F. Javier Gutierrez is the man being tapped to fill the director’s chair, having previously worked on fantasy crime drama Before The Fall. He will likely be joined by scribe Jesse Wigutow, who recently rewrote The Osterman Weekend for Summit Entertainment.

Not exactly household names then, but Relativity Media will just be pleased to have the project back on the rails again, having been entangled in a lawsuit with the Weinstein company over the rights to the character.

Yesterday saw an end to that particular dispute, with the two parties electing to settle out of court, and the green light given to Relativity to continue apace with their reinvention of the avenging undead rock-star.

With a new director and writer on the brink of signing on, hopefully we should soon get some idea of the direction the new film will take before the casting rumours start afresh. So long as Bradley Cooper isn’t in the title role (as was once rumoured), we’ll give it a chance…

Would you rather this was left alone, or do you want to see The Crow remade? Tell us, below.

Total Film are guilty here - "Long awaited remake" Awaited by who?? Brandon MADE the original. Ghost is right - I can't see why anyone would want to remake this...

I hate the trend for remakes, sequals and reboots at the moment but as far as The Crow goes, the damage is already done with s**t sequals and TV shows so I'll be interested to see how this develops.

I have always genuinely wondered if there are any films that are considered sacred in Hollywood and would never be remade - i take it there's no legal reasons why a film cannot be made if whoever owns the rights allows it. maybe TF could do some kind of feature on this?

The only way this should be re-made is if they follow the graphic novel page for page and introduce the few characters that were left out, otherwise dont bother s******g on a classic.

Hopefully they will get round to Constantine, and do it right this time!

What was wrong with Constantine? They replaced a cool mean motherf'n fair-headed bad-a*s scouser with a dark-haired bad-acted Keanu Reeves and had him fighting mid-ninties channel 5 Xena-esque GCI demons.

The Crow is fine just the way it is. This is going to suck really, really, really, badly. Why? Well, for a start it was Brandon Lee who will be forever be The Crow. Anyone, and I mean ANYONE is just going to fall short. It's all about legacy. Will there ever be a better Joker than Heath Ledger?

At what point does a film become a classic? Does enough time have to pass before that label can be applied? Does it have to be widely recognised for its quality or performances? Or does it simply have to tick a prerequisite number of boxes within the Academy? And how many people have to like it before it stops being a cult movie and becomes a normal movie? Last I heard, The Crow was a cult classic. Seems ANYTHING that becomes 'cult' is labelled a cult classic these days. f**k sake - even Showgirls could be considered a cult classic in that case. Why not remake that?

imho I really love the original 1994 Brandon Lee film of The Crow. the 2005 sequel The Crow: Wicked Prayer starring Edward Furlong & the short lived The Crow: Stairway to Heaven TV series starring Mark Dacascos. but imho I hated both the City of Angels & Salvation sequels. because I thought they were absolutely dreadful. I personally think they just should leave The Crow the hell alone now.
