New Line Developing Vacation sequel

National Lampoon's Vacation, that is…

Episode 5734 in Studio Raids Archives To Find Name Property To Exploit: New Line has come up with the idea of a sequel to 1983 comedy National Lampoon's Vacation.

While we could point out that it'll have to get in line behind European Vacation, Christmas Vacation and - shudder - Vegas Vacation, it looks like the producers really do want to make a new follow-up and not a remake for once.

The driving forces are Wedding Crashers director David Dobkin, who might tackle the new film and New Line Executive Sam Brown, who noticed that he had access to the rights once his studio had been swallowed by the mighty Warners Star Destroyer.

So what would be the basis for this latest Griswold outing? Seems it'll focus on Rusty Griswold (played by Anthony Michael Hall, above, and Jason Lively in the first two films) taking his own family on a road trip.

Dad Clark and mum Ellen (Chevy Chase and Beverly D'Angelo) are likely to just cameo as the grandparents this time around - and that assumes they'd even want to be a part of the new movie…
