New plot synopsis for The Dark Knight Rises

Who likes spoilers, then?

The Dark Knight Rises has gone rather quiet since filming wrapped. Having treated us to endless on-set pics and the beginnings of a viral marketing campaign, we haven’t heard much from Gotham City for a good few weeks now.

However, that is all about to change with the emergence of a new plot summary courtesy of Warner licensee FilmCells, who’ve spilled the beans on their official product page.

It goes without saying that the new summary is a little spoilery, so if you want to go into the film completely cold, look away….. NOW!

Right, for those that have stayed, here’s the new description of the plot: “When Commissioner Gordon stumbles upon a plot to destroy the city from within, Bruce Wayne gets back into action as the Batman. Waiting for him is the mysterious Selina Kyle and Bane, a lethal adversary on a crusade to tear apart Batman’s legacy piece by piece.”

Who’s the rotten apple in Gotham, then? Could it be that mysterious Miranda Tate we’ve heard so little about? Nothing is certain as yet, but the plaque to which the above description is attached also contains some interesting plot points.

One of the images accompanying the celluloid snippets reads, “Fugitive James Gordon – report on sight!” Meanwhile, an image of Bane is accompanied by the tagline, “I have your back.” Somebody’s going to get their spine smashed, aren’t they?

The Dark Knight Rises opens in the UK on 20 July 2012. We started crossing off the days a long time ago…

What do you make of the new synopsis? Who is the inside man plotting Gotham's demise? Tell us your thoughts, below.

Still haven't seen any pics of Lucius Fox. Is Morgan Freeman defiantely in it? Also, have we got any more idea who Jason Gordon Levitt is gonna play? I always thought that he would make a great replacement for Heath Ledger as the Joker, even if it was just a small cameo. With Bane seemingly busting people out of prison, could the Joker make an appearance. I reckon it would be right up Nolan's street playing a little bit of mind games by showing a snipet of JGL 'going through a door' in the trailer, but actually having him playing someone else.......or is that just extreme wishful thinking on my part?

oh, an i reckon Gordon's the one who's gonna get mangled by Bane, judging by the state he was in on that first trailer.

RE: The trailer, it looks like Bane's robbed Jon Motson's sheepskin coat that he wears on match of the day. Honestly though, while I rate Nolan's last Batman flick, I always felt that the movie Batman was a poor relation to the WB animated Batman.

I think there will be a smear campaign against Gordon because everyone assumes he's Batman's only ally. I actually think there will be a few big revelations as far as corruption & betrayal, namely by Cotillard's character of Miranda Tate (who I'm convinced is actually Ra's Al Ghul's daughter Talia). There's some clips online (not sure if they've been pulled or not) of Cotillard leading a group of armed men (the scene of the mass riot) & some pics of her climbing onto one of the Tumblers. There's already been confirmation of flashback(s) involving a young Ra's Al Ghul with his daughter (if Neeson indeed returns it would explain how she knows Wayne is Batman). Supposedly Nolan is borrowing heavily on the Bane of the Demon & Knight Fall story line which if is true means Bane was a former pupil (& love) of Talia & that he's obviously going to break Batman's back.
