José Padilha’s RoboCop reboot has released a brand new trailer online, personally introduced by the director himself, who explains how the new film relates to modern society.
The trailer proper begins with Samuel L. Jackson’s TV host Pat Novak, who instructs his audience not to be so “robo-phobic” while showing them footage of some extremely menacing robots.
Thus, the scene is set for hero cop Alex Murphy, critically injured in the line of duty, who finds himself becoming the perfect poster boy for the new wave of machines, “a product with a conscience”.

It’s great to get a look at the star-studded cast here, with Jackson, Gary Oldman and Michael Keaton all getting a chance to shine. And there’s even a glimpse of the great Michael K. Williams, firing off a one-liner with gusto.
Directed by Padilha and co-starring Joel Kinnaman, Abbie Cornish and Jackie Earle Haley, RoboCop will open in the UK on 7 February 2014.
