The Avengers weren’t the only movie stars to get a Super Bowl airing this weekend, with the extra-terrestrial nasties of Peter Berg’s Battleship also making their presence felt, in big, explodey style...
The new footage goes into a little more detail regarding the film’s plot, with an invading alien craft stationing itself at sea and launching a long-range attack on the good old US of A. Erecting an impenetrable forcefield around itself, the alien ship is safe from the defending American forces… or is it?
A lone battleship was stationed inside the affected radius when the forcefield was erected, meaning it’s down to one brave crew to defend Earth against the extra-terrestrial invaders.

From the look of the action sequences, the trailer is more than a little reminiscent of fellow Hasbro property Transformers, with the invading creatures looking distinctly robotic in appearance.
In all honesty, it looks like absolute nonsense, but that’s not to say it won’t be fun, particularly with Liam Neeson on scenery-chewing duties as a grizzled old military man. Battleship opens in the UK on 11 April 2012.

Nothing's as c**p as Transformers. Hey Dalidab I forgot that you didn't like Battle: LA. There weren't any aliens in it were there? I feel the same about Battleship. I'm so p********f, I watched the whole trailer and didn't see a single Battleship! Not once!!!

There I was hoping to see a taught battle of wits and skill featuring some future quotes such as "B3....?" "....miss." But alas, all I got was this generic damp squib. ho hum.
