New trailer for Frankenweenie: watch now

"The best dog a kid could have"

Frankenweenie, Tim Burton's feature-length adaptation of his original short film, has released a brand new trailer, in which young Victor proves himself quite the scientist with the resurrection of his dead dog.

Having managed to harness the power of electricity to jolt poor Sparky back to life, Victor is struck by the implications of what he's done, and attempts to keep his pet pooch under wraps. However, Sparky has no intention of spending his second shot at life cooped up indoors, and soon sets about wreaking havoc throughout the neighbourhood.

Worst still, when others get wind of Victor's achievements, they decide to have a go for themselves, and it isn't too long before there are hordes of zombie creatures stalking the streets. Can Victor sort out his mess, before its too late? Or will the town's overreaching attempts to play God cost them dearly?

The stop-motion animation looks truly gorgeous here, and every bit as macabrely charming as it did on previous Burton projects The Nightmare Before Christmas and Corpse Bride. And as with those films, the director also seems to have struck a good balance between the cute and the creepy.

Featuring the vocal talents of Martin Landau, Winona Ryder, Catherine O'Hara and Martin Short, Frankenweenie will open in the UK on 17 October 2012. The time to let sleeping dogs lie has nearly come to an end...
