New trailer for Star Trek Into Darkness arrives online: watch now

"Is there anything you would not do for your family?"

The new, full-length teaser for Star Trek Into Darkness has arrived online, with J.J. Abrams managing to keep things cryptic despite the two-minute running time.

The new trailer begins with a voiceover, possibly from Bruce Greenwood's Captain Pike, berating Kirk for a cockiness that will lead he and his crew into great peril. And from the looks of the carnage that follows, he may not be far wrong.

Then there's another interjection from Cumberbatch, as he poses the question, "Is there anything you would not do for your family?" Sounds as though Kirk is going to be pushed to his limits this time around…

Watch the trailer over at iTunes Movie Trailers.

It could be a mere tease, but is Abrams hinting at a Wrath Of Khan connection with this new footage? For starters, Cumberbatch's aforementioned dialogue is a direct quote from that film, while we also get a glimpse of that familiar hand-meeting imagery.

Then there's the fact that Alice Eve's character, Carol Marcus, is another who appeared in Wrath Of Khan. Is Abrams just toying with us, or is the villain's identity still up for debate? We'll have to wait and see…

Co-starring Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto and Zoe Saldana, Star Trek Into Darkness opens in the UK on 17 May 2013.

looks great, but wish hollywood would get more original with its soundtracks. the first half was the same chord sequence thats been used in every 'poingnant' moment since frodo crying about gandalf, all soft strings and choirs. and as for the second half...'oh no the jokers coming!'

Very excited for this and the fact Cumberbatch is finally getting some international exposure.

Is it me or did I see Kirk wearing a red uniform at the end? Of course, there were in the first movie, but given the context - what will all the Khan references and all - it is even more reminiscent of The Wrath of Khan.

Anyone else notice that the shot of what looked like coffins have glass panels! Why would coffins have glass panels? Unless they were stasis chambers for, I don't know... villainous genetic people! This has Khan written all over it. Cool trailer though :)

Totally agree with the fact that its brilliant that Cumberbatch is getting all this recognition. 2013 will be a good year for him. Hollywood needs to see Sherlock in action.

I also think Spock is connecting with Harrison through the glass, not Kirk.

Perhaps they are setting Khan up for a future film. I mean, he would have to be revived from stasis on the Botany Bay, try to steal the Enterprise and murder Kirk (not necessarily in that order), and be marooned on a planet. Remember, as this is an alternate timeline, events will no longer play out the same way. Kirk may not even have a son with Carol Marcus, he may have a daughter. It is open for Abrams to rewrite EVERYTHING, except the fact that Khan is floating out there somewhere. Maybe Harrison will find him and revive him instead...

I hope they don't touch Khan becuase Ricardo Montalban done a perfect job with the character.

Come on J.J, we've had all of the flash, flash, bang, bang. Can we have a little substance please?
