Nicole Kidman is Dusty Springfield

She’ll play the legendary singer…

The last time she worked on something by writer Michael Cunningham, Nicole Kidman slapped on a false nose and went home with an Oscar for The Hours.

This time, however, Cunningham is not letting someone adapt his work – he’s penning a biopic of Dusty Springfield for Kidman to produce and take the leading role in. The story of the singing star of the ‘60s sounds like prime material for Kidman, especially considering its tragic end (Springfield died in 1999 of breast cancer). Fox 2000 is developing the movie.

In fact, it’s such a compelling subject that Universal is already working on its own version, with Deck The Halls’ Kristin Chenoweth prepping her lungs. Variety is singing the story.
