No Nolan for Batman 3?

Insider says ‘franchise is back to square one’.

BY Chris Hicks Jun 18th 2009 6:06AMFILED UNDER: Movie news

In what some will see as karmic balance to our story on Bay being off Transformers 3, it seems that Christopher Nolan and Batman 3 is far from a done deal.

A trusted source of Batman On Film has told them that the director is still unwilling to sign on for a third outing. From the site:

The death of Heath Ledger in January of 2008 rocked Mr. Nolan hard. So hard that Chris was convinced that TDK was going to be it for him and Batman on film.

The Joker was going to return in BATMAN 3.

“You are correct in reporting that he is developing story ideas with [Jonathan Nolan] and David Goyer, but it will be until AT LEAST 2012 before we see the Caped Crusader back [in theaters]. And that is only an EARLY ESTIMATE at best right now. They are even saying it might not be until 2013.”

Basically, the BATMAN film franchise is back to square one. As far as a story or a BATMAN 3, “Right now, there is none,” says our guy.

The question is, will (or can) Warner Brothers afford to wait that long?

Rumours that Zack Synder is being considered as a replacement are still circulating and a five year hiatus for Batman movie seems ludicrous. Especially given the money The Dark Knight took.

At any rate, Nolan is occupied with new movie Inception until 2010.

Good things come to those who wait and I'd much rather wait till 2013 for Nolans film, than have some half assed attempt which has been rushed through to make money (I have no gripe with Snyder as a director. Just the idea that the film will be pushed out incase it looses out on money).

I feel sick.... I would much rather wait for a Nolan film than some rubbish graphic novel effort, but there are other good directors out there. We are being told not to link Ledger with the Joker character and keep open-minded, so perhpas the same should be said of Nolan and the franchise itself. Burton's films faltered at two, Schumacher's should never have been made but again only two came out of that franchise era. Maybe asking for a third film that critics and audiences will take to like TDK is fanciful.

This story is complete BS. Just look at the soap opera drama. Never trust any "news" where Heath Ledger is somehow brought into it. Like last week my friend told me that Heath Ledger has just signed up to play Henry Hill in Goodfellas 2.

Without Nolan, the Batman franchise would still be wallowing on the bargain basement shelves. He has made it what it is, and to replace him for a bloody cash in would be astronomically gay. As was previously said, nothing against Snyder, the mans a genius in his own right. I just wish he would sign up to do Warcraft and get it made!
