So far in her career, Gemma Arterton has played a lot of upper-class beauties in the likes of Tamara Drewe and Quantum Of Solace, but as far as we know, she hasn’t been given the chance to rupture many arteries with her bare teeth.
That is soon to change however, as Neil Jordan’s vampire flick Byzantium will see Arterton flex her bloodletting muscles as a toothy creature of the night.
And from the looks of the latest on-set pictures from the film’s Dublin-based shoot, Jordan certainly isn’t skimping on the splatter front. Indeed, we barely recognised Miss Arterton from behind that crimson mask!
The film sees Arterton star alongside Saiorse Ronan as a mother and daughter team of vampires, who occasionally pose as sisters when the situation calls for it. On the run for murder, the pair attempt to lie low in an English seaside town, but it soon becomes clear that it isn’t just the human authorities who are after them…
It sounds quite an interesting premise to us, with Arterton’s character fatigued by more than 200 years of life, and torn between the need to protect Ronan and her wish to finally settle down. Byzantium is pencilled in to arrive Stateside later this year, with a UK release date yet to be confirmed.
Will you be going to see Byzantium, or has the vampire genre grown a little tired? Thoughts below, please.
