Original Buffy actress shares her opinion on the reboot

What does Kristy Swanson think?

When a Buffy reboot was announced last week, the general internet reaction wasn't the most positive.

Joss Whedon made a humorous announcement about the whole thing, and Eliza Dushku made her thoughts clear on Twitter: "Joss made the "Buffster" & w/out him… I just don't trust the girl. Or the world."

Now Kristy Swanson, star of the original Buffy the Vampire Slayer movie from 1992, has weighed into the debate to give her two cents.

Swanson told Entertainment Weekly: "Let Buffy live. Why not?"

She also added (perhaps angling for a job): "If they wanted me to be a part of it, I think that would be fantastic and that it would be a blast."

"There are die-hard Joss Whedon fans who absolutely love him to death, and rightly so. He's a brilliant man, no doubt… I love everything Buffy. I don't care who's doing it."

EW go on to add that Swanson's original co-star Luke Perry, had no comment on the matter…

We'd love to know what Sarah Michelle Gellar thinks about the whole reboot idea.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer is a brand. It is not a license to print money. A new movie without Joss Whedon running it will be counterfeit. It will weaken Joss' oppotunity to revisit the characgter himself, perhaps with an older Sarah Michelle Geller. This non-Joss Buffy deserves to be abandoned. It is even worse than Sony's wrong-headed reboot of Spider-Man where they have trashed a team, an infrastructure. Buffy in general is little more than a blip on my radar, but I have grown to respect Whedon thanks to Firefly and to a lesser extend Dollhouse (which was however smart and well done in all respects). Regard this new Buffy as a step backwards. The feature with Swanson didn't involve Whedon enough and there were points of concern. But its director participated in the TV series. No harm done there. But this planned re-boot is a producer's wet dream - being puppeteer to any director or writer who comes along to adhere to procucerial instructions. For the show to have a vision and a reason to exist it should go back to Joss. Studios can recklessly crank out c**p eploitations of brands it owns, but the blame will rest with whatever audience plays along and pays to see it. Boycott the re-booted Buffy. Boycott the re-booted Spider-Man. Tolerate he re-booted and then cancelled V.

Anyone p**sing and moaning about how a reboot would ruin Buffy and be "like, the worst thing ever," needs to remember that the TV series was itself a reboot of the ideas first seen in the movie (as well as being a spiritual sequel to those very same events).

The TV series was a direct sequel to the movie but Joss Whedon was able to keep it true to the story he wanted to tell. The original movie however enjoyable is definitely a distant second to the universe created in the tv series.

Who cares!!!!!! "Angel" was a much better show anyway and Joss Whedon is extremely over rated. He should stay in TV land and keep right away from trying to make movies. They look like extended TV episodes. I am dreading to see what is going to happen to my favourite team of superheroes "The Avengers". MARVEL STUDIOS should have hired an experienced and distinguished (A list) Director to helm what undoubtebly is meant to be an unprecedented cinematic epic blockbuster. That's NEVER going to happen with Joss Whedon directing.

Is it just me or does any one to kill 'MagneticEye84'. Joss is the greatest storyteller of our generation. No one would be able to handle that amount of characters like he can, any other director would put all the focus on one character like iron man and have the rest as supporting cast. JW will give them all screen time without loosing focus on the story at hand. I wonder who this "experienced and distinguished A list director" that magneticeye84 would like to see is?
