Panasonic Marketing Director Andrew Denham has criticised Hollywood for releasing substandard 3D movies.
At the recent Intellect Consumer Electronics show he made some pretty scathing remarks
"It all comes back to quality," Denham said. "Hollywood damaged 3D by rushing so many badly converted films out in the Avatar's wake."
Denham was not alone in his disapproval. Channel Director of Sky 3D John Cassey seemed to agree, "It's very easy to make bad 3D."
He told the show's panel, "At Sky we only make native 3D programmes, and our first stage of production is always to forget about the 3D altogether.”
With industry giants like Panasonic and Sky making such incendiary remarks, could the future of 3D be under threat?

this is good, if consumers and manufacturers are telling hollywood to make better 3D they'll do it. every time you do or don't buy a ticket you're voting. 3D has gotta sort it's s**t out. btw yet to see a 3D movie as inspiring as hubble 3d

Yeah, 3-D is 3-Done. It's also just an excuse for cinemas to charge more and is a waste of time in general (last 3D film I saw was "Clash of the Titans", enough said).

I love "made in 3D - it's fantastic". However, unless a film is made in 3D, it is not worth being in 3D. The odd conversion has been OK, but most of them are better watched in 2D. Hopefully now, Hollywood will take notice and dispense with these conversions, just to grab an extra bit of coin! Roll on the next Avatar!

Do we really need 3D ?? I am quite happy with HD movies and Blu Ray discs.

Decent HD and fantastic sound is far more immersive than 3D.

3D is a gimmick and so far Avatar has been the only film to really impress me. Hopefully this gimmick will run its course very soon.

Captain EO stands up as some of the best 3D committed to film, and that was back in the mid-80s.

Avatar was the only enjoyable 3D experience. Apart from my bloody Valentine 3D ;-) I mostly go for the 2D version after a few "soso" experiences. No need to give up 3D altogether, but then do it properly or not at all.
