Paramount fast-tracks Footloose

Zac Efron is the new Kevin Bacon

Paramount has decided that what the world needs is a new version of Footloose – with High School Musical’s Zac Efron in the lead.

It’s been in the works for a while, but with Musical’s third outing opening big this past weekend, Efron seems the natural choice to slip into Kevin Bacon’s quick-moving shoes.

Nick And Norah’s Infinite Playlist director Peter Sollett is rewriting the script, which High School Musical helmer Kenny Ortega will direct, says Variety.

New songs

While some of the 1984 original’s tracks (including Holding Out For A Hero) are likely to be kept in, the studio is working on new songs for the fresh take.

Yes, Efron’s finally mind-warped every tween he can – now he’s after the rest of us, with nostalgia as his weapon.
