Paramount in talks to distribute new Terminator movie

Wheels in motion for fifth film

Progress seems to be afoot with the long-awaited Terminator 5, with Paramount having reportedly entered talks to snap up the distribution rights for the prospective sequel.

All has been quiet on the Terminator front since Skydance signed on to partner with production company Annapurna last December, but now it seems Paramount wants to step in and get things moving.

Laeta Kalogridis and Patrick Lussier are currently hard at work on writing a script, and should Paramount's deal go through, we'd expect a director to be appointed in due course.

Justin Lin had originally been attached to fill the director's chair, only for Fast & Furious commitments to force him to vacate it. However, with production on Terminator 5 having been significantly delayed, there is still a chance he could return to the project…

Perhaps most important, however, is whether or not Arnold Schwarzenegger decides to return as the Terminator. Last we heard, Arnie was still keen, so lets hope this one springs into life before he changes his mind…

Would you like to see a fifth film? Tell us, below!

If Arnie's gonna be the Terminator, how will they explain a 60-something year old killer android? If they're gonna use CG for his character, Salvation has shown that they don't even need the actor for that. And if he's not going to play the Terminator... well then, why bother with Schwarzenegger in the first place?

Yeah, I was about to say the same thing. A Terminator in his 60's doesn't quite cut it. Seeing Arnie in his more recent stuff has shown just how much he has physically aged since he turned to politics. Unless they have him play the guy the terminator was moulded on (and ignore the god-awful deleted scene from T3), I don't see how it could work with Arnie actually in it.

I just wish they'd get James Cameron back involved in some way - it's his baby after all. THey need to give us a film about the future war and finally show the resolution of that conflict when Synet is finally beaten.

Why can't he be a terminator that's been stranded in the past for 80 years or something in a failed mission time loop

I wish they would just leave the Terminator franchise alone.

@ilikescifi - I like you're thinking. I hadn't thought of that. The 'flesh', after all, would probably age...

I've always thought (since T2 was released) that they need to do a Terminator film set in the Future War that ends with Kyle Reese being sent back in time to begin the events of the first film. That way, the loop is closed and we have a complete story.
