Paranormal Activity creators have grand franchise finale planned

“There is a very specific end goal”

The Paranormal Activity franchise might still be turning out sequels at a rate of knots, but according to director Christopher Landon, there is an end in sight.

Landon wrote and directed Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones, the fifth film in the series and the first to deviate from the central plot, and claims that he, Oren Peli and Jason Blum are planning a big finish for the well-loved franchise.

“We’ve always been looking ahead,” says Landon. “I’ll say this much. There is a very specific end goal and I’m hoping we have enough time in the franchise to get there.

“We have a really big idea that’s at the finish line, but we need time to get there. So we’re hoping the fans keep coming back and allow us to get them there.”

The Marked Ones recently opened to the tune of $18.2 million Stateside, the worst debut of the series so far, but still decent enough business to put it second in the chart.

A better indicator of the series’ longevity may well be the performance of Paranormal Activity 5, which will hit UK screens on 24 October 2014. If it does well, expect a few more sequels before Blumhouse and Paramount cash out on that endgame…
