While the plot of The Secret Life Of Bees – young whippersnapper Lily Owens (Dakota Fanning) escapes a harsh in small town USA to discover the mysteries of her dead mother’s life and is, er, taught bee keeping by Queen Latifah, Sophie Okonedo and Alicia Keys) doesn’t exactly sound like our cinematic kettle of fish, it does now boast one more quality thesp to add to the already bursting line-up.
Paul Bettany has signed on to play widower Ray Owens, AKA Lily’s dad in the movie, which Gina Prince-Blythewood will start filming this week in North Carolina. We’re still left wondering if Jerry Seinfeld will try to wrangle a role as one of the bees…
