Sean Penn, Benicio Del Toro and Jim Carrey are lining up to star as Larry Curly and Moe – better known as The Three Stooges for the Farrelly brothers and MGM.
Penn is apparently in place as Larry, while Jim Carrey is negotiating and considering an all-McDonald’s diet to gain 40 pounds for the role of Jerome “Curly” Howard.
Del Toro hasn’t locked down a deal yet, but MGM and the brothers are convinced he’s the man for Moe.
The Farrellys have been trying to get this thing moving for years – setting it up at Sony, Warners and now MGM, which has pushed to nab the rights to the team’s films and lives.
And it won’t be a biopic of the classic American entertainers, more a comedy built around their usual slapstick antics.
The aim is to start shooting early in the autumn for an unspecified 2010 release date.
