Pitt catches The Sparrow

Brad’s Plan B to produce tale of a priest in space

Pet production companies - like socialites and little handbag-sized-dogs - every actor seems to have one.

Last Year, Brad Pitt’s Plan B Entertainment put its pot behind Tim Burton’s Charlie And The Chocolate Factory. In 2006 Brad has backed Martin Scorsese’s sure-fire hit The Departed starring Matt Damon and Leonardo DiCaprio and his own cowboy flick based on the life of outlaw Jesse James. So it seems Plan B is here to play, not sit on the bench.

Warner Bros has just announced that they will be teaming up with Pitt the producer on The Sparrow, a tale adapted from Mary Doria Russell’s debut novel by North Country scribe Michael Seitzman.

The story centres on a Jesuit priest who tags along with a gang of astronauts to a planet far, far away after earth receives its first contact with an alien race. The man of the cloth and the crew create outrage on the planet after befriending one of the planet’s two races. A terrible war breaks out and the priest suffers a crisis of faith.

The project had been with Universal, who had also had Plan B on board to develop but they let the rights lapse. Brad is said to be considering a starring role in the flick. Now there’s a shocker!
