Prince Caspian reigns at the US box office

Less-than-royal launch for the new Narnia entry…

It opened against no real competition besides ruling champion Iron Man, so no one was really surprised when Prince Caspian brought a solid first weekend for the next entry in the Chronicles Of Narnia franchise for Disney. While it wasn’t exactly a roaring success, the film did score $56.5 million.

Iron Man, meanwhile, continues to be strong, nabbing $31.2 million this weekend and boosting its total to $222.4 million in the US alone after just three weeks. What Happens In Vegas dropped to third, but losing only 31% of its business for a $40 million running total. Speed Racer just keeps hitting the breaks, however, dropping 58.8% to add $7.6 million to its dismal $24.3 million gross to date. And at fifth Baby Mama took in $4.5 million for a current total of $47.2 million.

In the middle of the charts, Made Of Honour has $33 million at sixth, Forgetting Sarah Marshall dropped one place to seventh with $55 million made, and Harold And Kumar Escape From Guantanamo Bay added $1.8 million to its $33 million total in eighth place.

At the bottom, The Forbidden Kingdom laboured over the $50 million mark in ninth and indie drama The Visitor opened wider and nipped into the top 10 with $3.4 million taken so far.
