Prometheus trailer arrives

And it's bloody terrifying...

And so the last piece of the trailer week jigsaw falls into place, as the first full teaser for Prometheus arrives online. And do you know what? It might just be the most exciting of the lot.

The comparisons with Alien are only going to become louder in the wake of this scary new footage, in which our crew of intergalactic explorers clearly discover more than they had bargained for in the outer reaches of space.

Over-reaching ambition is clearly a major theme here, with a voiceover (from Noomi Rapace by the sounds of it) wailing, "it was so wrong...I'm so sorry!", before the ominous tagline arrives: "they went looking for our beginning, what they found could be our end."

Most exciting must be the alien environment uncovered by the crew, which look nothing short of breathtaking. Then there are the various images of large-scale mayhem that suggest our team's mission is about to go very wrong indeed.

Take a look at the new trailer below...

In a nutshell, it looks every bit as epic, exciting and downright scary as we could have hoped. 1 June 2012 can't come quickly enough...

Is this the most exciting trailer of the week? Tell us your thoughts, below.

So so sweet. That's how to make a teaser.

Also from a quick breakdown on two views, I think I can see a faceburster or similar eating through a viewplate, and I think that electronic blooping might be a motion detector.

Suitably epic. With Scott, Nolan and Jackson back in their element, 2012 is going to be a massive year for films.

let's hope they don't 12A it for a bigger audience.. By this trailer looks like it could go either way.

I really like the way the title appearing on screen copies the original Alien.

A great trailer I think, my only hope now being that the film does not disappoint, obviously. Although I've not been too keen on much of Ridley Scott's recent output (Robin Hood, Kingdom of Heaven et al), these film represent only a fraction of his career so, like thedanieljson, I'm hoping that he doesn't go for the lowest common denominator and make the movie too family friendly. There's nothing wrong with 12A movies or indeed movies of any certification, but I really think that to be true to the world that he himself created, he needs to give this film the hard edge and cynicism that it deserves.

Not excited yet. It looks like an extended version of the exploration of the space jockey aircraft.

@thedanieljson@Mings - i wouldn't worry about a 12a. Read an interview with scott months ago in which he talked about taking the franchise back to it's nasty, visceral roots and to make it scary again. Think we are in safe hands. Trailer was awesome.

First off, Murphy's comment was amazing. And I must admit I found this trailer a bit underwhelming. Don't get me wrong, it was cool, but it felt TOO much like a tease. I understand that it's called a "teaser", but I just ended up feeling more confused about what it was about than ever. It was series of really cool images that left me intrigued. I guess that makes it a success, as it makes me more interested in the film, but I'm not going to rank it up there was one of the all time "great teasers", and it was certainly the least of the three trailers we got this week.

Thank you. But I have to disagree on your second point. The Prometheus teaser was my favourite of the three. It is exactly what a teaser should be, as you said. s**t scary and enticing. TDKR was an awesome trailer but maybe the build up to this is getting saturated already. Maybe it's my own fault as I keep reading three features every week about it on this site. As far as The Hobbit trailer goes, how good does Martin Freeman look? That little flick of the finger really echoes Ian Holm. Anyway back to Dalida.. I mean Prometheus. (Seriously not confusing the 'kingofcinema' with a Greek God though. Mind you I wouldn't mind him getting his liver eaten by an eagle... over and over and.........) Looking forward to that one... take from that what you will.

This is a great teaser, really atmospheric. I agree that it does look a little clean, but my main question is why is there a Firefly class ship in it?

Merry Christmas, Dalidab. But I think a change in your attitude would be the best present you could give to the other people on here this year. You've been a complete arsehole to strangers since you started posting. If there's one human being who deserves a visit from the ghost of festive hatred removal, it's you. You've been a huge detriment to a site which really doesn't need your idiocy, ignorance and hatred and i'm envious of the other posters that actually have tolerance for the complete b******t you spout at every available opportunity. Writerdave, you're a saint. Dalidab, it's taken me until now to realise that you're always going to be here whether we want you or not. We don't want you. You're a f*****g arsehole. Hohoho, you hateful freak.

Easily the best of the three epic teasers released this week. If any of them deserves a Total Film trailer breakdown, complete with judiciously chosen freezeframes, it's this one. It feels like there's a tonne of detail I've missed, and I've watched it three times already!

Look at the guy jumping off the top of the rover vehicle. The fact he's attacking a guy in a space suit without wearing a helmet (And also that he seems to have a seriously messed up face/head), implies to me that he's no longer human... add to the melting-through of the faceplate, clips of the medical bay etc... I'm feeling a parasitic/psychotic 28days later thing here myself.
