Public Enemies trailer hits the web

It’s Bale vs Depp in Michael Mann’s Dillinger thriller

The first trailer for Michael Mann’s Public Enemies has gone online and you can watch it right here.

Starring Christian Bale and Johnny Depp, Enemies tells the story of depression-eta gangster John Dillinger (Depp), who became notorious for his lightning fast bank heists.

His crimes naturally put him on the radar of the Bureau of Investigation (what would become the FBI) and J Edgar Hoover (Billy Crudup) assigned his top agent, Melvin Purvis (Bale) to track him down.

Trouble was, Dillinger had become a folk hero and also somewhat adept at flashy jailbreaks.

Enough with the plot summaries and the real-life drama! On with the footage!

Great Director, Great lead Actors.. But John miliu's 1973 DILLINGER, with the great late Warren Oates, is one of my all time favourite films so not sure if i will like it compered to that Classic. Also Bryan Burrough's recent book Public Enemies (probably no connection) Rewrites previous thought FBI History (from recent released FBI Files) showing Melvin Pervis to be a complete Incompetent. The shoot out at Little Bohemia a paticular Embarressment as

The Dillinger Gang slipped out the back door Alerted by the FBI firing on a car full of Innocent Hotel Guests. Purvis was marginalized by Hoover and saw catching 'Pretty Boy Flloyd' as redemption but while he was there to order the fatal shot that killed Flloyd he didn't pull the trigger as it looks in the trailer.(it was only luck that he was there, acting on information on Flloyd after he had crashed his car) He never met dillinger. only outside the Biograph Theater just before he was shot. So dissapointingly looks like mann's printing the ledgend and not going to fincher like authenticity. Interesting to see who's Playing 'Baby Face' Nelson as I dont see him in the Trailer but in 1973 Ricahard Dreyfuss portrayed him as a chettering a*****e which They got that right according to Alvin Karpis of the Baker Gang.

I am getting a similar attitude in this movie as was in HEAT. Can we totally hate the criminals, do we totally agree with the lawmen? I hope it does well. It's a very alluring subject matter. Obviously, it seems to have a romanticized hue about it, but that's Hollywood all over. I hope the actors own up to their considerable reputations all, and Michael Mann has proven a good director of crime stories. Hope he can do is again here.
