Quentin Tarantino is keen to work with Johnny Depp

“We’re fans of each other”

As Quentin Tarantino prepares to unleash his eighth film, Django Unchained, on UK shores, he’s already looking into the future and a possible team-up with Johnny Depp.

While chatting with talkshow host Charlie Rose, Tarantino admitted that the idea of working with the celluloid chameleon isn’t a new thing.

“We would love to work together,” he said. “We’ve talked about it for years. Not that we get together and talk about it for years, but from time to time.

“We’re obviously fans of each other. It just needs to be the right character. I just need to write the right character that I think Johnny would be the right guy to do it with.

“And if he agrees, then we’ll do it. And then it’ll be magical.”

So far, though, Tarantino hasn’t written a character that he thinks is suitable for the Pirates Of The Caribbean actor.

“I haven’t written the perfect character for Johnny Depp as of yet. Maybe someday I will, maybe someday I won’t. We’ll see.”

Doesn’t exactly sound like a sure thing yet, but we’d love to hear Depp having a go at some of Tarantino’s famously chewy dialogue.

Django Unchained opens in UK cinemas on 18 January 2013.

The genius of Tarantino is putting leading actors in to roles that we would not typically expect to see them in or taken out of their comfort zone. While I am sure Depp would be great in whatever Tarantino role he may find himself in, I am glad that Tarantino only wants him in the right role and not just for the sake of having Depp in a movie. Given though that we can imagine Depp in anything presented to him it might be one of those things that will never happen.

      Should've cast him as Django.

Depp could be doing with a role from QT as he's been coasting ever since Public Enemies.

Django was always written for a black actor (hence first choice Will Smith). Depp would be good with Tarantino, to distance himself from the inevitable Burton / Depp / Carter backlash. Maybe a lost Vega brother

Could bring a much needed change of direction to Depp after a very mediocre few years. Fear and Loathing, Donnie Brasco, Sleepy Hollow etc made me a huge fan of him but he's not been truly good for a while.

One character for both Depp and Tarantino to get their teeth into: Doctor Strange. Tarantino has Marvel knowledge and Depp is good with a 'tache...
