Rachel Weisz has Lovely Bones

She’s starring in Peter Jackson’s novel adaptation

Rachel Weisz certainly isn’t wasting the time she’s opened up by turning down the third Mummy outing. Having finished work on Rian Johnson’s The Brothers Bloom, she’s just agreed to star in Peter Jackson’s version of The Lovely Bones.

Weisz will play the mother of Susie Salmon, a murdered girl whose voice tells the story of her untimely death and follows her family’s fortunes. While the mother’s role isn’t huge in the book, Jackson and regular co-writers Fran Walsh and Philippa Boyens are expanding the role for the movie.

With $65 million to spend, Jackson will start filming in New Zealand (natch) and Pennsylvania (surprise!) this October.
