Ralph Fiennes talks Skyfall

Exclusive: “It has all the things that Bond fans want”

Total Film recently sat down with Ralph Fiennes to talk about his directorial debut Coriolanus, and we took the opportunity to grill him on his role in upcoming Bond movie Skyfall.

Rumours have persisted that Fiennes will be playing iconic villain Blofeld in Sam Mendes’ 007 film, but the erstwhile Voldemort is remaining politely tight-lipped.

When we asked him about Skyfall, he responded, “I’m afraid that all I can tell you is I’m a government agent.”

Who becomes Blofeld, we tease cheekily?

“I can’t say anything. Well, I can tell you I think the script is very good indeed, and I think the character relationships are very well drawn and that it’s witty and funny – and yes, it has all the things that Bond fans want, which is action and events and locations.”

And Fiennes has no hesitance when we ask if the new film will be as hard-edged as Casino Royale: “Oh yes, this is hard-edged Bond…”

Coriolanus opens on 20 January 2012, with Skyfall following on 26 October 2012.

"it has all the things that Bond fans want, which is action and events and locations" Regarding locations, I have totally forgotten when it was that the fans demanded that Bond go on these globe-trotting missions. Do fans want this? Or have the studios just got it in their heads (out of nowhere) that to be a blockbuster, you must visit at least 5 different countries in one movie? (See transformers, Indiana Jones 4, 007, M:I...etc) "Oh yes, of course, because 'The Fans' want it."

I broadly agree with you in regards to blockbusters in general, but Bond has been globe-trotting since Dr. No, its part of Bond.
