Redford walks with Bill Bryson

It’s taken him a while…

Robert Redford has been talking about adapting Bill Bryson’s non-fiction book A Walk In The Woods for years now, at least as far back as 2005.

Now it looks like the film might finally get going, as Slash Film reports from Sundance that Barry Levinson will be directing.

The plot finds Bryson (Redford will play him and produce) launching an attempt to hike the notoriously tough Appalachian Trail in the States. To make matters more difficult, he takes along a fat, obnoxious, former alcoholic pal.

Redford has reportedly being trying to coax friend and former Butch Cassidy co-star Paul Newman out of retirement to take on the role. Charming. We doubt that’ll happen. But it’s good to hear that Redford’s finally getting his act in gear.
