If you were playing a word association game, chances are that “Renée Zellweger” and “horror” wouldn’t naturally crop up together. Not unless you’re a real fan of her last stab at the scary genre, 1994’s The Return Of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. And all true fans of that movie have been hunted down and imprisoned at the behest of her legal team.
But after flirting with the idea of turning scare-shaped again on Paramount’s remake of the Pang brothers’ The Eye (she ditched), Zellweger has now been tempted back to the terror stable. At least, for now.
Paramount - that studio again - has grabbed her for Case 39, which will see her playing an idealistic social worker who rescues a 10-year-old girl from abusive parents, only to find out that it’s not quite as simple as that.
With a shooting date pencilled in for 31 July in Vancouver, the film will need to find a director soon.
