Resident Evil 5 on the way

Jovovich confirms fifth zombie action flick

Resident Evil

Resident Evil: Afterlifejust opened number one at the US box office, despite lukewarm critical response, so it’s no surprise that another flick in the profitable franchise is being considered.

Mrs Resident Evil Milla Jovovich spoke with Vulture, and confirmed that Screen Gems are looking to her to continue the horror franchise with a fifth entry.

“This new Resident Evil is the first one to ever open at No. 1 worldwide. It's the biggest movie in the franchise,” she says. “So we're definitely going to make another one.”

Handily, the fourth Evil entry ended on a cliffhanger that could easily set up the next flick – and it seems director Paul W.S. Anderson already has ideas for the fifth Evil entity. But could this be the first interactive sequel?

“We've been talking to a lot of fans on Twitter and stuff, so it's probably going to be one of the first movies where we really talk to fans to see what they want, and what characters they want to see. It's going to be a more interactive process.”

Whether you’re a fan of the undead franchise or not, better get used to it being around – it’s resolutely refusing to die.

Lukewarm critical response from everyone except Total Film it would seem, as they have no critique positive or otherwise for the film

How is it that Spider-man has be overhauled, but the Resident Evil films dont? These films have gone so far past the games that they don't deserve to have "Resident Evil" printed on it. this film was put into production only due to the fact of how well Resident Evil 5 the game did. So they decided to add Characters and enemies from RE5 into the film to capitalize off its success. These films need to get rid of Mila and Wes and start from scratch. It pathetic that no studio has yet made a video game to film that sticks to the original plot of the video game it self. I'm all for a bit of originality and something new to add, but dont move away from the plots set out by the video games. If anyone can tell me that the first film was just like the first resident evil game, then your an idiot. The second film again capititazied off Nemises and thats it. The third one, once again had nothing what-so-ever to do with resident evil, apart from the title. And this film, holly hell, how did they even get the money to make this. seriously Mila must have sucked alot of stuido D*ck to get funding because its that bad!

All four movies are an abomination and disgrace to the video games.

She's not gay she's married to wes Anderson. Director of the RE franchise. I agree that degeneration is the best re film. But the first film doesn't really relate to RE 0 apart from the train that's involved. My main beef is Sony pictures. They forced the reboot of spiderman. But when the RE films are in need of a reboot they are blind to it.

I'm sorry Dalidab but I agree with everything Rusco87 said. And I also have to say, I really doubt you've actually played the games if you reckon they're faithful adaptations or even fit in with the universe. All the films have done is take elements from the game and form their own brainless plotlines. For example the first film took the Mansion and underground lab idea, but instead of this immense, atmospheric building we get a brief glimpse of it before going into the lab which somehow is actually the size of a small skyscaper and filled with hundreds upon hundred of workers. Also the Licker didn't appear till RE2 and did not mutate upon eating human flesh, and the train escape was also lifted from RE2's finale. The only thing that was true to Nemesis was the actual beast. Thankfully not done in s****y CG but the whole idea of it was the Nemesis hunted down the remaining S.T.A.R.S. members. It didn't gun them down in one shot, and S.T.A.R.S. were not a small army either! And possibly the worst part of them was the whole idea of the T-Virus drying up the worlds oceans....how just how?! It's a virus created to regerenate dead tissue. This defies any sort of logic! And yet the oceans are back in RE: Afterlife?? All Paul WS Anderson has done is taken character names and a few plot elements and created this franchise of brainless, explosion-filled action movies not to suit fans of the horror-thriller genre which the games are a tribute to, but d*****s americans who couldn't understand Inception. Marvel were the ones who forced the reboot of the Spiderman franchise to fit in with their current universe of movies. Unfortunately Capcom sold the rights to the Res Evil movies which is why all they can do is films like Degeneration which show Paul WS Anderson how it's supposed to be done.

And by the way, all I did was disagree with your opinion and give my own on these films. This was not a personal attack against you, therefore your attitude and language is extremely childish and uncalled for. I am entitled to my opinion and my difference of opinion.

Rusco87 late post to this news but after reading your first comment, I have to question if you ever played the games and if so payed any attention to them. You say the third film has no connection to the games, yet had you played them you would have realised, Dr. Isaacs uses the t-virus to transform into the tyrant, from the end of the first game. Personally i dont mind that they have gone there own way, as they have been able to create one main character through out, which following the games would not have been. But if your going to criticise at least make sure you know the facts, how can you say that the games would have made better films, you clearly don't know the games.
