Ridley Scott's directing the Alien prequel

He'll officially return to the franchise

Looks like 20th Century Fox really didn't want anyone but Ridley Scott in charge of the Alien prequel - he's officially attached to direct.

Jon Spaihts is writing the script after submitting a killer pitch to Scott Free Productions

There's no word on exactly what the plot will be, but it'll likely set up the dead, Xenomorph egg-infested ship seen in the original Alien.

While we're still not sure we need to see another use of the Alien franchise, having Scott back at the helm certainly helps us warm to the idea.

And if it means we don't have to suffer another Aliens Vs Predator film - at least for a while - it's all the better for it.

Just when you think Fox have completely lost the plot (Rothman has to use a dictionary to look the word up everytime it is used in a meeting) they go and do something like this. Great news if there is going to be abnother uneccessary sequel this is who should be doing it!

Good writer. Good director. Able to completely disregard everything that happened in films 3 and 4. Managed by Fox. I make that 'not suck' winning by 3 to 1.

how films 3 and 4 turned out so bad is odd because they were from two of my favorite directors (fincher and jeunet). i guess leave this to the alien master, ridley scott.

The man that started the Alien franchise directing a pre-qual is great news. He`l go into it with a good script in place to put the series back on the rails.Ridley is the Man.

Sweet this is the best movie news I have heard in awhile. I hope they tell us more about that Alien who was dead on that chair next to the signal beacon .

zoodust I think the reason 3 was so poor was because Fincher was forced to make changes from the studio and Sigourney.

Ali1748 you are talking c**p. Sigourney was actually on Fincher's side. She even threatened she would not promote the film if they interfered even more then they did. Next time don't talk out of your a*s.

I am not I listened to the commentary from Fincher and he said he had alot of trouble making the film from the studios. and If you listen to the Aliens commentary you'll hear James Cameron say Sigourney had suggestions for the franchise like making love with the Alien etc. nice hostile mature reply btw

This is terrible news that it is being made all as I doubt he needs the money. There are somethings which should be left alone like a seemingly abandoned shrine in the middle of the woods for example and alien or any prequels to alien should be left the hell alone

Love Aliens... but oh so clever from 20th Century Fox to have Mr Scott at the helm! They for sure know there's a great possibility of many old fans not liking the idea of a prequel might flop before it even started. Some things are better left untouched! This a delicate situation. Whoever allowed the birth of the Alien VS Predator franchise should've been fed to them! What utter c@"p! With films always trying to top one another in the gore scenes, this one will probably be a "slice and dice". Mr Scott, IF you're reading your TotalFilm, please take as much advice from fans!

This is good news, but I just hope they make a decent story out of it.

ridley scott is over rated. alien was not scary when i saw it at the age of 10. blade runner...BOOORRRINNNG...Gladiator, a poor man's Spartacus. Black Hawk Down..seen it all done before and much better...need I go on. If Fox had said that Cameron was coming back then I would have been excited. As it is, this will be average.
